Remembering HRH The Duke Of Edinburgh On What Would Have Been His 100th Birthday

Remembering HRH The Duke Of Edinburgh On What Would Have Been His 100th Birthday

At Halcyon Days we’re privileged enough to have enjoyed a fantastic fifty year relationship with the Royal family. Our three Royal Warrants continue to be a source of immense pride for all involved with the brand, and everything we do is driven by the desire to uphold the quality, integrity, and dependability that those warrants so strongly suggest.

One of those three warrants was granted by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, making us one of 35 companies to receive his official accreditation. Today, 10th June, marks what would have been his 100th birthday, an event we were much looking forward to marking in a different capacity to the one that we are. Nonetheless, while tinged with sadness, today should be no less celebratory than it would otherwise have been.

In recent weeks, we’re sure you’ve enjoyed reading the justifiably plentiful column inches outlining the Duke’s countless impressive, inspirational achievements. We won’t list them all here today but, amongst his myriad of accomplishments, one particularly stands out: Prince Philip was the longest serving consort in British history, completing 22,219 solo engagements before his retirement from public duties in 2017. He was an aspirational embodiment of service, grace and humility. While his symbolic significance was and remains great, the Duke’s character and personality pervaded all he did too. Known for his intelligence, charm and razor-sharp wit, he was at once an icon and an individual; a manifestation of noble values while simultaneously retaining an air of approachable relatability.

As a tribute proper to the late Duke, we have just released a series of enamel boxes displaying characterful depictions of him by Royal portraitists Ralph Heimans and Richard Stone. Each limited edition piece in the collection has been crafted entirely by hand, and we hope you’ll think, as we do, that the range feels fittingly exceptional, enduring and, of course, celebratory.
