CORONATION FESTIVAL AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE 2013
Halcyon Days was proud to be invited to join an exhibition at Buckingham Palace in July 2013, along with all other holders of Royal Warrants. The event marked the celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s sixty-year reign and coincided with Halcyon Days' fifth decade as Royal Warrant holders. As part of the celebrations we launched a new collection called The Glorious Reign, of which the design is a wonderful collage of uniquely British icons.
From the earliest times the Royal Household required goods and services. Competition for Royal favour was intense and the Monarch had the pick of the country’s most proficient tradespeople. The earliest surviving record of Royal approval comes from 1155, when Henry II granted the Weavers’ Company a Royal Charter.
By the 15th century the Lord Chamberlain formally appointed Royal tradesmen with the Royal Warrant of Appointment. During Queen Victoria’s reign more than 1000 Royal Warrants were granted.
ROYAL WARRANT HOLDERS
Royal Warrants of Appointment are granted to companies that have supplied goods or services for at least five years to the Royal Households. There are currently three Royal Warrants for goods supplied to the Households of Her Majesty The Queen and their Royal Highnesses The Duke of Edinburgh and The Prince of Wales. There are today around 800 Royal Warrant holders.
THE ROYAL ARMS
Royal Warrant holders may display the Royal Arms on their products, premises, stationery, website or advertising. Royal Warrants are reviewed at least every four years. All Royal Warrant holders share a commitment to the highest standards of quality and service.
